Pre-Admission Screening and Resident Review (PASRR)

All individuals seeking or receiving services in a Nursing Facility (NF) must be screened for mental illness, intellectual disabilities, and related conditions prior to admission to a Medicaid certified NF. This is accomplished by administration of the Pre-Admission Screening and Resident Review (PASRR). The purpose of PASRR is to determine whether the resident requires a specific level of nursing care, if there is a diagnosis of serious mental illness or intellectual disabilities, whether specialized services for mental illness or intellectual disabilities are needed, and to prevent inappropriate placement in a NF by determining whether the resident is more appropriately served in an institution for those with conditions of intellectual disabilities or mental illness.
