The Brain Injury Services Fund Program

The Brain Injury Services Fund Program, also known as the Brain Injury Program or BISF Program, is designed to provide statewide short-term services to New Mexicans living with Brain Injury. This includes those with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or other Acquired Brain Injury, such as stroke, aneurysm, anoxia, brain tumor, brain infection, Shaken Baby Syndrome/Abusive Head Trauma, or exposure to chemical/toxic substances.
The Brain Injury Services Fund Program offers Service Coordination and Home and Community Based Services, including Professional Life Skills Coaching, to eligible residents of New Mexico. This program is designed to be a short-term program, which assists qualified individuals to greater independence in addressing a crisis situation, for example, those who need assistance in applying for Medicaid or those who do not qualify for Medicaid and lack responsible payer sources for needed services.  Individuals are eligible for services, if they have been diagnosed with a brain injury, which has been confirmed by a licensed medical professional or psychologist. Individuals who reside in institutions are not eligible to receive services. The BISF Program is funded, in part, from a $5 fee that is added to all New Mexico traffic violation tickets.  The BISF Program also offers resource materials and training/educational opportunities specific to individuals with brain injury, family members, professionals and other interested persons.
