New Mexico to deliver $2.7 million in food assistance

Benefits allocated for 65,000 children ages zero through five in the latest childcare P-EBT issuance

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Human Services Department (HSD) today announced families of 65,000 New Mexico children, ages zero through five, will receive additional food benefits for the months of August and September of 2022. The P-EBT 2022-2023 childcare year issuances will be issued on a gradual schedule.

HSD in collaboration with the Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD) will issue Pandemic-EBT (P-EBT) benefits for children, under the age of six, who were participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) between August 1, 2022, through May 11, 2023. For each month of P-EBT benefits available, the child also had to be enrolled in SNAP.

“Families and communities grow stronger when we are able to provide economic security,” said Kari Armijo, Acting Secretary for the New Mexico Human Services Department.“This additional assistance does exactly that by helping New Mexico’s children grow up happy and healthy.”

The P-EBT 2022-2023 childcare year issuances will be distributed in monthly amounts on the following schedule:

  • August 2022 and September 2022 will be issued April 19 – 21.
  • October and November 2022 will be issued in May.
  • December 2022 and January 2023 will be issued in June.
  • February and March 2023 will be issued in July.
  • April and May 2023 will be issued in August.

Due to the end of the federal public health emergency on May 11, 2023, the childcare P-EBT for childcare school year 2022-2023 will be the last cycle of issuances with no additional summer issuance for ages zero to five.

For qualifying school aged children, a last summer months P-EBT issuance will be issued in the upcoming months.

HSD will issue new P-EBT cards to newly eligible children. A new card will be mailed for those with a recent change in guardian or address. Please contact FIS (P-EBT card vendor) directly at 1-800-843-8303 with any questions about P-EBT cards.
