General Information
Section 4201 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) provides funding support to Medicaid professionals and hospitals for the adoption and meaningful use of certified electronic health records (EHRs). The Medicaid EHR incentive program will provide incentive payments to Eligible Professionals (EPs) and eligible hospitals for efforts to adopt, implement, upgrade, or meaningfully use certified EHR technology.
The Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs provide a financial reward to eligible professionals and hospitals for the meaningful use of qualified, certified EHRs to achieve improved health outcomes. These incentive programs are designed to support providers in this period of Health IT transition and instill the use of EHRs. The overall goal is to help our nation improve the quality, safety and efficiency of patient health care as providers adopt, implement, upgrade or demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology. The federal program begins in 2011 and New Mexico implementation is planned to begin in late spring/early summer 2011.
