Director's Office

The Director's Office oversees and directs the statewide Medicaid, CHIP, Insure New Mexico and State Coverage Insurance programs that include a full range of Medicaid physical and behavioral health services. The Director's office develops strategic goals and objectives, directs activities, and provides guidance to all levels of staff for all programs within the Medical Assistance Division.


The Director's office is made up of the New Mexico Medicaid Director and three Deputies; the Medical Director's office; the Healthcare Operations Director, the Special Projects Coordinator the Medical Assistance Division's Native American Liaison and various support staff members.


The Medical Director, a physician, helps to ensure the overall quality of care for Medical Assistance Division clients through oversight efforts aimed at promoting the highest possible coordination of care and effective care delivery. The Medical Director also serves as the advocate for physicians and other providers as they interface with the Division.


The MAD Healthcare Operations Manager promotes acceptable business practices and cultivates positive business relationships between MAD, its partners, and customers. This position also monitors HSD compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.


The Special Projects Coordinator provides timely, responsive, and high quality services to HSD staff, through coordination and management of various grants and projects.


MAD's Native American Liaison focuses on assisting with matters related to the Medicaid program for the 22 New Mexico Indian Nations, Tribes and Pueblos and the Indian health care delivery system made up of the Albuquerque Area and Navajo Area Indian Health Service, tribal clinics and programs, and the Albuquerque urban Indian clinic.
