Behavioral Health Coordination Unit

The BH Coordination Unit serves as the unit within the Medical Assistance Division that oversees and coordinates behavioral health service activities within the division. This includes oversight and working with all the Division's Bureaus to ensure that Medicaid behavioral health requirements and needs are identified and addressed. The unit also provides oversight, direction and guidance to the Behavioral Health Statewide Entity (SE) to ensure that Medicaid's requirements and regulations are addressed. The Unit facilitates the lines of communication between the SE and the Division.

The Behavioral Health (BH) Coordination Unit represents Medicaid within the Behavioral Health Collaborative and as part of the Oversight Team, which is tasked with ensuring contractual compliance of the SE. The Collaborative encompasses several state agencies working in partnership as one to improve the delivery of behavioral health (mental health and substance abuse) services in New Mexico.

In addition, the unit houses a Behavioral Health Ombudsperson who serves as an advocate for consumers and providers, and assists them in accessing services and directs them to appropriate resources.
