New Mexico Human Services Department Selects Finalists for Centennial Care
Secretary Sidonie Squier announced the selection of the new Centennial Care Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) that will be charged with providing care to the some 700,000 New Mexicans who receive services through the Medicaid program, including those who are newly eligible under Medicaid expansion. The selection comes after a competitive bid process that began late August 2012.
“This was a very competitive process amongst some top flight companies who provide care throughout the country and here at home,” said Secretary Sidonie Squier. “We still have much work to do through a readiness period, which begins immediately. The Human Services Department is looking forward to working in partnership with the new Centennial Care MCOs to ensure that comprehensive care coordination is being provided so that Medicaid recipients are receiving the right care, in the right place, at the right time.”
The MCOs that have been selected, in no particular order, are:
- UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of New Mexico
- Blue Cross Blue Shield New Mexico
- Molina Health Care of New Mexico, Inc
- Presbyterian Health Plan, Inc
The MCOs will now begin working through a readiness state with the Human Services Department to prepare for full implementation of Centennial Care in New Mexico beginning January 1, 2014.
About Centennial Care
Centennial Care is the new name of New Mexico’s Medicaid program. Its design creates
a single, comprehensive delivery system through four managed care plans, allowing
for greater administrative simplicity. It emphasizes care coordination so that recipients
will receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time, leading to better
health outcomes. Existing Medicaid recipients will be able to begin selecting their
new MCO starting in late 2013.
The newly eligible population under Medicaid expansion will be enrolled under Centennial
Care.
